VINES & WINES
In-Depth
with Christina Pallmann
An in-depth interview with Christina
Pallmann, Winemaker, Fritz Winery, Dry Creek Valley.
“You really don’t need
to know where you are going until you’re thirty”, sound advice, Christina
recalls of her mother. And, accordingly, in her thirties, Christina Pallmann was
offered the prestigious position of winemaker at Fritz Winery in Sonoma’s
Dry Creek working closely with Merry Edwards for her first two years. We spent
a charming evening at Christina’s home in Healdsburg, California, discovering
how she came to this point in her life, receiving 91 pts from Wine & Spirits

| Growing Conditions
It is often said that If a grape grows well anywhere, it grows well somewhere
in Northwest Sonoma Country.
Westside Road
A trip along Westside Road is a must of any wine visit to the Russian River. Compared
to driving through Tuscany for its magnificence, the winding two lane road goes
through the heart of the wine country, over rolling hills, across the Russian
River, through redwood forests and to many fine wineries.
Look for the Cheese
The same climate that blesses farmers is shinning through in the cheeses of Sonoma
Country. Visit Sophie's Cellars in Monte Rio for local cheeses, concierge service,
and a selection of hard-to-find wines. www.sophiescellars.com

| California's most diverse and beautiful wine region. Part of
Sonoma Country which many say has emerged as the premier wine region of the world.
Sonoma Country has more vineyards and appellations than Napa to the East, thirteen
appellations in all. With this vast number of microclimates and soils to work
with, from the hot valley around Cloverdale to the cool vineyards of the Sonoma
Coast, the area's winemakers will always be the avant-garde of wine-creation and
storytelling. |
