An Ancient Hidden Tree
Off the beaten path lies the most amazing tree at the Russian River. The type you walk around a few times to have a real good look at. When you arrive, notice the quiet of the redwood grove, cool refreshing air, the sweet scents, the softness of the forest floor, the occasional inquiring animal. Touch the huge living thing in front of you and gaze up its trunk to the forest canopy above.

Getting there: Look at the area map and make your way to Armstrong Redwoods Road from central Guerneville. Park at the entrance and walk in along Armstrong Nature Trail. After starting on the trail you will cross the road twice then take the first left.

The Armstrong Redwoods picnic area. Group and individual sites are available. The picnic area is a 5-minute walk from the icicle tree.

Looking down on Armstrong Redwoods grove from Austin Creek state reserve. Photograph taking in the morning as the fog begins to burn off the valley.

You can drive or walk through the park. This is a picture of the road winding around and ancient redwoods. Visitors walking their dogs must take the road. The icicle tree is closer to the picnic area so if you drove there then walked back to the tree you could shorten the distance.
